Millions of snowbird RVers come to Quartzsite to bask in our warm, sunny winters. Most visitors bring at least one pet with them. Sadly, sometimes these furry family members wander and become lost in unfamiliar territory. A stray puppy wanders the streets of Quartzsite.

Stray and lost pets also create a public safety hazard as wild coyotes learn they can sneak into town for an easy domestic meal of pet or pet-food. Please do not leave any pet food outside.

If a pet is found before it becomes coyotoe fodder, often it goes to the county animal shelter, where it may be euthanized (put to death) if not quickly claimed. This poor fella looks like he knows what's coming.

This needless killing has to stop! Willpower Incorporated plans to build an animal sanctuary, educate the public and advocate pet spay and neuter programs.

Please consider spaying your pets

MANS' BEST FRIEND
by nashville sharon

A friend is loving and loyal to the end.

A perfect description, of mans' best friend.

If you've never had a dog, you've truly missed,

A special love, and you've never been kissed!

I've had many human friends, over the years.

Who disappeared, when they decided to switch gears.

But all my dogs, stayed by my side.

And only left me, when they died.

It's a pity not to have a dog, for at the long days end,

You know the joy of welcome home, from that special friend.

It's a pity not to have a dog, whatever be the breed.

For dogs possess a faithfulness, that most us humans need.

Their love is unconditional, no matter what we do.

Day after day, and all the night through.

Little cold noses, and trusting eyes.

Wagging tails, that never tell lies.

They're glad to follow, wherever we go.

Guarding and protecting, when strangers say hello.

A dog stands by us, in sickness and health.

He never deserts us, and don't care about wealth.

He'll kiss the hand that has no food to feed.

and follows with joy, wherever we lead.

When I am wrong, he's delighted to forgive me.

His forgiveness is mine, and always free.

His head on my knee, can heal my broken heart.

An unspoken bond, right from the start.

He keeps me warm, when I sleep.

He snuggles close when I weep.

He lays with me, when I'm sick,

and covers my face, with a big ole lick.

He lets me know, when it's time to get up.

He learned to tell time, when he was a pup.

He howls when I sing, with his nose in the air.

When we harmonize together, we're quite a pair.

The neighbors don't like our sophisticated sound.

If they don't like it, they can get outa town!

Funny faces with eyes that glisten.

Perky ears that love to listen.

He thumps his tail, at my smallest smile.

Just to be near me, he'd walk a mile.

Whether they bark, or whether they purr.

Their place in our life, is innocent and pure.

They tug at our hearts, to the very end.

They bring peace to our lives, they're Mans' Best Friend.

Loving pets are little souls wearing furr.

Some who bark, and some who purr.

When it finally comes time, for them to sleep.

I pray the Lord, their souls to keep.

The Amazing Cat Rescue

Story and photos by Deb Metzger

APS rescues cat from power pole.

This little cat sat on the electric pole for about 6 days...maybe more.  When we saw she was there, last Thursday, the local APS tried to help but the wind was blowing so hard and the lines have such high voltage he couldn't help us. The fire department even showed up and couldn't do anything...

one amazing cat

It took a fluke happening, even after many of us had been calling the main APS office...

nothing had been done.

The APS guys were in town working on a power outage and were having breakfast in a local restaurant. Earl Jaycox had been trying to help with the resue since we first saw her and he happened to see the APS truck parked at the restaurant and went in and told the men about the kitty. They came out (with two trucks, one is not in the pictures) and you can see the result. It made for a very nice Xmas for all of us who were worrying that she'd climb down during the night and either get hit on the highway or eaten by the coyotes. She is one lucky cat and she knew it. She was purring up a storm!
all smiles on the ground

Sparky

P.S. The fire department named her Sparky.
