Willpower Incorporated and the Quartzsite Food Bank work together to supply nutritious meals, snacks, juice and milk to children participating in the Summer Recreation Program.
The Summer Recreation Program happens in June and July. Children participate in problem-solving games, physical education, nutrition education, and get to go swimming at the YMCA in Yuma on Wednesdays. When it's 115 outside...or more...this is a major treat!

The Kid’s Fun Night sleepover May 26, 2006 was a great success. Forty-two of the 110 Quartzsite Elementary School came to spend the night in a locked facility, have fun, eat pizza, play games…and keep the grown-ups up all night!
Thank you from Willpower Incorporated to these kind donors:
The Quartzsite Improvement Association for use of their facilities for the night,
Tyson Wells Kym Scott's payment of the set-up fee for the bounce house,
The Grubstake for breakfast muffins,
Family Dollar Store for juice boxes,
Animal Refuge Thrift Shop’s Leigh Simmons for ice cubes and money for door prizes,
Road Runner Market for paper plates and napkins,
Quartzsite General Store for goodie bags,
Dariel Bread Distributing for doughnuts and layer cakes,
Chevron and Shell / Quick Check for caes of sodas,
The Quartzsite D.A.R.E. Program for toys and prizes,
Dorothy Keene and Verla Fish for money to help with expenses,
Alex Taft for the extra blankets,
Terry and Paul Lenkner for helping to set up and clean up, and
Tracey Richardson, Dr. Pierce and Carolyn Guthrie who chaperoned the event.

A HUGE thank-you to Tracey Richardson, who came up with the idea for the Kid’s Fun Night, organized the event, secured use of the QIA, a bounce house…AND secured all these donations from the kind folks of Quartzsite. Great job, Tracey! What's next…?

Willpower's secretary / Town of Quartzsite Rec Leader Dr. Donna Pierce arranged for the Quartzsite Parks, Recreation and Library Departments to have a dog safety program presented to the children enrolled in the after-school program at the library March 8, 2006.
A winter visitor / professional dog breeder and groomer brought her champion Amercian Pit Bull Terrier, Dakota, to the library to teach the children how to approach an unfamiliar dog, how a pet dog should be treated and cared for, and gave a primer about dog training.
She brought a dog training video with her and the children sat absolutely still, enthralled, as they watched. She also gave the children coloring books featuring animal safety and information for them to take home to help educate pet-owner parents about spay and neuter programs to help prevent unwanted animal births.
